BASS: WMC announces DJ Spin-off deadline, record registration numbers

DJ Shortee and Felix Sama will co-host the 2007 WMC/DMC DJ Spin-off, which kicks off with performances by 2006 DMC Champion Netik and DJ Missil. DJs will battle for first place in two separate categories. Having specific and rigid criteria, official DMC judges will decide who has what it takes to own first place.

DJs wanting to enter the spin-off, one of the hottest events at the annual Winter Music Conference, must enter by the Feb. 23, 2007 deadline. In both the Beat Matching and Scratching battles, DJs will be judged on criteria such as their intro, technical abilities, showmanship, tricks, creativity and blending, among other things.

DJs should also note the following:

-- Entries must include a completed application, entry fee ($25.00), bio, and demo (CD or Tape format).

-- DJs may enter both the Beat Mixing and Scratching competitions.

-- Demo's must be no longer than 5 minutes in length and must be reflective of the DJs prospective performance.

-- Those of you working off laptops can forget about it: laptops will not be permitted as this event is for turntablists. Click here to get an online application for the spin-off.

Seperately, the Winter Music Conference announced a record number of registrants for their 22nd annual event. Those planning to attend this year can register by Feb. 7 at the current $325 price.

After Feb. 7, the registration fee -- which includes entry to WMC poolside events and full access to all panels, seminars, the Ultra Music Festival (UMF), the International Dance Music Awards (IDMAs), plus various exhibits and workshops -- will rise to $375.
