Akashic slates launch of 'San Francisco Noir 2: The Classics'
Edited Press Release
With 2008 coming to a close, publishers are starting to unveil their
upcoming titles for the first quarter 2009. One short story collection
that will appeal to San Franciscans is "San Francisco Noir 2: The
Classics" (Akashic Books) that follows in the tradition of the
publisher's prior edition and is edited by Peter Maravelis, who will make
several appearances in The City and larger Bay Area starting next month.
Dashiell Hammett and William Vollmann are just two treats
in this stellar sequel to the smash-hit original volume of San
Francisco Noir. It includes classic reprints from: Ambrose Bierce,
Frank Norris, Mark Twain, Jack London, Dashiell Hammett, Fletcher
Flora, Bill Pronzini, Joe Gores, Don Herron, Ernest J. Gaines, Marcia
Muller, Oscar Peñaranda, Janet Dawson, Seth Morgan, Craig
Clevenger, William T. Vollmann, and John Shirley.
The romantic "City By The Bay" is blasted by yet another crime spree as
San Francisco Noir 2: The Classics picks up where its predecessor left
off. Join some of the great storytellers of the past as they conspire
with contemporary noir virtuosos to showcase the city’s criminal
legacy. From Wild West outpost to dystopian cosmopolis, San Francisco
is exposed in all its treacherous glory. Visit a sinister landscape
populated by the possessed, the dispossessed, and the wandering ghosts
of days gone by.
Past meets present as Ambrose Bierce,
Frank Norris, Mark Twain, Jack
London, Dashiell Hammett, and Fletcher
Flora team up with Bill
Pronzini, Joe Gores, Janet Dawson, Oscar Penaranda, Seth Morgan, Craig
Clevenger, and others, to present short stories that will shake
the
city to its dark core. San Francisco Noir 2: The
Classics is slated for release in February 2009.
Peter Maravelis is a native San Franciscan with a life-long involvement
in the art and literary scenes. He programs the events calendar at City
Lights Bookstore and is editor of the first volume of San Francisco
Noir. He’s been known to occasionally moonlight with private
investigators.
