BASS: Voting, tour underway for fourth annual 'America's Best DJ' title
Edited Press Release

Roger SanchezPioneer Pro DJ and DJ Times magazine announced the launch of the fourth annual America’s Best DJ (ABDJ) competition and summer tour. The San Francisco Bay Area's DJ Shadow, Kaskade and Danny Tenagalia are among the top 10 in the ABDJ current standings while House music DJs Roger Sanchez (picitured left) and SoCal's DJ Dan are making moves in the standings.

America’s Best DJ gives U.S.-based DJs a chance to shine just as brightly as their European contemporaries. The U.S. is the birthplace of dance music, the origin of club culture, and the biggest entertainment market in the world. America's DJs deserve a contest of their own.

As selected by the staff of DJ Times, this year’s TOP 100 U.S. DJs and contenders for the title of "America’s Best DJ" represent every possible style from Bhangra to House and Booty-tech. Online Voting is now underway, so dance music fans are encouraged to visit www.americasbestdj.net and vote for their favorite DJs.

Supporting the online vote, a 20-city tour -- dubbed America’s Best DJ Summer Tour Presented by Pioneer Pro DJ -- kicked off Saturday, May 2, at Pacha NYC with New York’s own DJ Boris. Upcoming tour dates include May 22, when Josh Gabriel plays at The Mark Ultralounge; May 23-25 -- Movement: DEMF; and May 31 -- Martinez Bros at LPR, NYC. More upcoming tour dates and venues are at the contest website.

The ABDJ Summer Tour, which runs May through August, expects to attract nearly 150,000 music fans nationwide and all voters will be eligible to win prize packages that include a trip for two to ABDJ’s closing party/award ceremony September 12 in Las Vegas.

DJ DanPrediction time: We're leaning toward two of California's best in DJ Shadow and DJ Dan (photo left by BPM Smith), who played an ABDJ tour stop at San Francisco club Ruby Skye on May 9. Since Shadow plays clubs infrequently -- usually when he's got a new studio album -- and Dan is virtually on a continuous nationwide tour, we predict DJ Dan will win this year's contest.

ABDJ votes will be tallied up through August 9 and the winning DJ will be flown to Las Vegas for the closing party/award ceremony. The 2008 ABDJ winner was Trance DJ Christopher Lawrence, who is currently out of this year's top 10.

The complete ABDJ Summer Tour will be announced shortly. For details, please visit www.americasbestdj.net.
