Grand National returns with sophomore LP ‘A Drink And A Quick Decision’
Edited Press Release
Recall Records is pleased to announce the highly anticipated release of
Grand National’s
sophomore album ‘A Drink And A Quick Decision.' The album will be
released in a unique fan-friendly platform format with the digital
version available on June 18th and a deluxe CD version available on
September 10th. The deluxe CD package will feature bonus tracks and
remixes not available on the digital release.
With A Drink And A Quick Decision, Grand National (AKA Rupert Lyddon and Lawrence "La" Rudd) have actually
improved upon their debut release ‘Kicking The National Habit.’
The band’s debut release drew a cult following around the world and
garnered considerable positive press from magazines like Spin,
Entertainment Weekly, Blender, CMJ, Big Shot, BPM, Remix and URB. Grand
National was also one of the featured acts on he cover of Billboard
Magazine’s 2006 SXSW special. In the UK, Grand National sparked a
similar reaction in the press with stellar reviews in NME, Jockey Slut,
Q, Mojo, Uncut and The Guardian.
There’s a darker more obviously Electro sound on some tracks, which may
well lead to more Depeche Mode
comparisons when the reviewers get their pens out. Others have an even
more live instrumental sound than the songs of ‘KTNH’, perhaps
influenced by the Grand National live shows that have evolved since the
debut.
The album is lead by the single "By The Time I Get Home There Won't Be
Much Of A Place For Me," a track destined for the radio but cool enough
to get the hippest feet tapping along. Other standouts include the
hopelessly beautiful "Joker And Clown," "Reason To Hide In," "Animal
Sounds," and the dark and brooding "Cut By The Brakes," among others.
Embracing both the digital age and their fans wishes alike, Grand
National and Recall Records have boldly decided to make A Drink And A
Quick Decision available online a full three months before the physical
product ships to stores and online retailers. This allows Grand
National to get their music to the fans immediately and without having
to wait for a physical release. However, those itching for a top-notch
package will want to pick up the deluxe CD release in September
featuring beautiful artwork, bonus tracks, remixes and additional
multimedia.
On the live front, Grand National’s six-piece band drew praise from
both critics and fans during several sold out U.S. shows in support of
Kicking The National Habit. While previous stops were limited to New
York, Los Angeles and SXSW, Grand National promises to bring their
magic stateside for an extensive tour around the release of A Drink And
A Quick Decision.
Grand National
was one of the acts along with DJ Cam
that played the record label’s Recall Lab
parties last year, which drew hundreds of top music industry
professionals and received extensive interest and coverage from the
media.
