Armin
Van Buuren takes four IDMA award nominations; D&B finally gets own
category
Public voting has begun in 45 individual categories at the 22nd Annual
International Dance Music Awards, and Trance DJ Armin Van Buuren
is among the leaders with four nominations, event organizers announced.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony during the 2007 Winter Music
Conference in Miami Beach, Fla. Here are some of the brightest stars
for the year of 2006, as well as the official ballot where you can have
your say on the winners.
Van Buuren (pictures
left), a leading Trance DJ for the past decade who has won many IDMAs
in the past, got four nominations this year, including in the following
categories: Best Global DJ, Best Mix Show DJ for his program State of
Trance, Best CD Compilation (State of Trance: 2006) and Best Producer.
In Jungle/Drum & Bass, preliminary voters nominated two white label
releases for IDMA awards, Martin
for his track I Wonder Why,
and Marky and Bundle for No Time To Love. Other
Jungle/D&B nominees include Kenny
Ken for More Fire, TC f/Jakes D for Deep and Subfocus for Swamp Thing.
In a sign that D&B is starting to garner more respect from the
IDMA, Jungle/D&B now has its own category instead of sharing
nominations with Breaks, as it has in past years.
American artists and dance events continue to shake up the global
electronic music scene, and U.S events took three of five nominations
for the Best Dance Event. Those include San Francisco’s LoveFest, the
Ultra Music Festival and, not surprisingly, the Winter Music Conference
itself.
Record label Star 69 added to last year’s momentum and took three
nominations. Its founder Peter Rauhofer’s
album I Love Miami was nominated for best CD Compilation, promoter Derek Graves took a nomination in
the Best Promoter (In House) category, and voters rewarded the label’s
continued upsurge with a Best American Dance Label nod.
Winners will be announced at the IDMA award ceremony during the 2007
Winter Music Conference, which runs from March 20-25 at the Miami Beach
Resort & Spa. Click here
to see the official ballot and have your say, before voting closes on
March 10.
