Paul Van Dyk leads nominees at International Dance Music Awards
Continuing his dominance in global electronic music, German DJ Paul Van Dyk took a whopping six
nominations at the 21st Annual International Dance Music Awards, event
organizers announced on Sunday. Public voting has begun in 38
individual categories with winners to be announced at a ceremony during
the 2006 Winter Music Conference in Miami Beach. Here’s your hookup to
all the locals who are making a splash in the global dance community as
well as the official ballot where you can have your say on the eventual
winners.
Van Dyk’s
six nominations reversed last year’s
position with Armin Van
Buuren, whose four
nominations in 2005 was the most of any artist. His track The Other Side featuring Wayne Jackson took nominations in
three categories including HiNRG/Europe, Progressive House/Trance Track
and Best Dance Video. Van Dyk was also nominated for Best Global DJ,
Full Length DJ Mix CD (The Politics of
Dancing Vol. 2) and Best Producer.
IDMA judges meanwhile nominated Van Buuren (pictured) for two awards
this year, including Best Full Length DJ Mix CD for State of Trance 2005 and Best
European DJ.
In Drum & Bass, Pendulum’s Slam
and Evol Intent’s Street Knowledge
were among four tracks nominated in the Best Breaks/D&B Track
category. Showing he’s still near the top of his game after nearly two
decades producing, The Prodigy
took a nomination for the track Voodoo
People, while Micro Dogs’
Killa Labs rounded off the category nominations.
American artists have made further inroads on the global electronic
music scene, and U.S events took half of the nominations for Best Dance
Event including -- for the second consecutive year -- San Francisco’s
Love Parade, New York’s Beatstock and the Ultra Music Festival.
The upstart American record label Star 69 was nominated for best U.S.
Dance Record Label and the label’s promoter Derek Graves took a nomination in
the new Record Label Promoter category.
On the local front, San Francisco party Spundae took a nomination for
Best Event Promoter, OM took a Dance Record Label nod, and KNGY San
Francisco was among five nominees for Best Dance Radio Station.
Winners will be announced at the IDMA award ceremony during the Winter
Music Conference, which runs from March 24 to 28 at the Wyndham Resort
in Miami Beach. Click here
