BASS: Drum & Bass, Trance, House ring in S.F. New Years

Whether you’re looking for Drum & Bass, Trance or Ambience tonight, there’s a party in San Francisco to help you ring in the New Year with a bang. At separate clubs across The City, dance floors will bang to the beats of British D&B spinmeisters Dylan and Robyn Chaos, Spesh and Jondi hold down the Progressive House front, and Entropy and Liam Shy bring the Trance scene full force into 2007.

Mission District club El Rincon continues to host Drum & Bass parties into ‘07 and appropriately enough, they’re hosting the Therapy Sessions S.F. party that’s headlined by Dylan and Robyn Chaos with the 12 midnight to 2 am slot. This 18-and-up party runs from 8 pm, when Dreadnaught and Xplizit kick off the evening, until "very late." El Rincon, located at the corners of 16th and Harrison, has a full bar (and restaurant) for the 21-and-up crowd. The cover is just $15 all night.

Out in the South of Market neighborhood, Qool is throwing a Progressive House and Ambient party in two rooms at 111 Minna Gallery with nine DJs including Hoj, Spesh, Jondi and Scott Carrelli in the main room. In the second room, the Ambi-Sonic crew will host an chilled out vibe with DJs DF Tram, Future BC, Xan-X and Traffic. Tickets are $50 at the door or $40 with "Q list" membership, and includes free champagne at midnight. The 21-and-up event, at 111 Minna Street, runs from 9 pm to 2 am.

Also in S.F.’s SOMA District, The SOMARTS Cultural Center has an 18-and-up party happening until dawn with three rooms of Trance, Chillout and mixed beats. In the Trance room, Entropy, Olowanpi, Liam Shy, Rob-OT, KJ and Kai will hold down the decks. Meanwhile, party promoter rEvolution brings in Ethan, Donna Matrix, Smoove and Goldilox among others into the second room, while The Ambient Mafia will have guests dreamy and relaxed in the Chill Room. Downtempo DJs spinning include Redstickman, Mo Corleone, plus tag-teamers Calamity Jane vs. The Captain, and Squelchy vs. Harken.

If you’re looking for live musical and DJ acts with a cross cultural flavor, catch Sahara: A NYE Extravaganza at elegant New Langton Arts in San Francisco, located in SOMA’s club district at 1246 Folsom Street. The event features two floors of diverse and electrifying live musical acts, Tribal Belly Dancers, Samba Dancers, African Master Drummers & Dancers, and DJs from India, Belgium, Ivory Coast, Liberia, France, Canada, Czech Republic, Brazil and the U.S.

Maneesh The Twister, Sila and the Afrofunk Experience, Lady Ra, J-Boogie and Vanka are among the many DJs and live musicians performing amid hors d'oeuvres by Electric Vardo's Chef Saroj, chai tea hand blended by Chai-G, amid Nomadic Art and projection of Tribal and African films.

Part of the 21-and-up event’s $40 cover goes to raise funds for children in Darfur, Sudan, and more than twenty DJs and live musicians in all will play from 9 pm to 6am in two rooms with warm wood floors, high ceilings, large windows and attractive skylights upstairs, and an authentic Bedouin Style lounge with visual imagery and bass heavy vibes downstairs in the DJ/dance room.

WORD’N’BASS.com would like to wish all our readers a fantastic and safe New Years Eve. Please be sure to designate a driver if you’re traveling when the festivities end.
