BASS:
DJ Roger Sanchez to make big screen debut in ‘Johnny Postal’
Today’s theme of hyphenated artist continues,
as globe trotting House
music DJ/producer Roger Sanchez
adds ‘actor’ to his resume this fall. The New York-based Sanchez is
reportedly slated to make his big screen debut as a "drug-dealing
bad-ass pimp" in Universal Studio’s upcoming flick Johnny Postal.
Director Frank Calo is helming
the project, which also has adorable actress Natalie Portman reading for the part
of a troubled hooker, according to the NY Post.
Sanchez, who founded Narcotic Records in the ‘90s that delivered
eclectic club tracks from artists like Ashley
Beedle, Deep Dish and DJ
Disciple, won’t get much rest before hitting the Johnny Postal
set. He’s scheduled to spin at the Sziget Festival in Budapest,
Hungary, and the Creamsfield Festival in Liverpool, UK in August alone.
"To me, spinning records can be just as creative as producing and
remixing," says Sanchez, who won a Grammy Award for his remixing. "A
great DJ can take a record and give it an entirely new sound or vibe,
by the way they deal with the beats or chord progressions."
Sanchez recently released a full length album Come With Me with record label
Stealth/Ultra, and says his next album will be Release Yourself Vol. 5. New Yorkers
can catch him at Crobar, where he has a bi-monthly residence.
