BASS: Surya Dub pres. West Coast's UMOJA Hi-Fi Sound System 15 Year Anniversary
Edited Press Release

Hot off last month’s epic Bug and Warrior Queen show, San Francisco crew Surya Dub isn't slowing down. We're extremely proud to present the 15 year anniversary of one of the West Coast's most endearing, beloved, and diverse crews, the Umoja Hi-Fi Sound System at Club Six in San Francisco Saturday, October 25.

This event re-unites the Umoja Hi-Fi DJ crew, including Daz, Jun, Culture D, Cokni O' Dire and Tomas from SF, LA, Dallas, and TX. This unprecedented event is the first time these five members have represented at the same event in SF.

"The energy is really high for this gathering," says Umoja co-founding DJ Tomas. "The venue and crew that we're working with for this event have won readers polls in both local papers for best monthly club. We're going to bring our best music and mixing to this night."

Tomas has DJ'd at KUSF radio station and clubs like Dub Mission and others since moving to the city in 1995. He kept in touch with the other five Umoja DJs over the years, and spun with Daz, Jun and Cokni at their Chocolate Bar residency in LA.

The various members remain active in San Francisco (Tomas) and Dallas (Cokni O’ Dire) and LA (Daz, Culture D and Jun) and continue to rock key parties such as Bossanova with Jason Bentley, Science with Urb’s Raymond Roker and MC Question Marc, B-Side, Speaker Boxx at Carbon, Uprock 77, Sunset Junction, Coachella, The Standard, Firecracker and Do-Over. Umoja DJs have also opened for and shared stages with Shabba Ranks, Supercat, David Bowie, Tricky, Jamiriquoi, The Pharcyde, Lennie Kravitz, Freestyle Fellowship and Blood & Fire Soundsystem.

The event features two rooms of music. Daz, Culture D and Cokni spin reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and global beats at the club's Inna Yard room, while Tomas and Jun tag team a dubstep and dub-tech set in the venue's Sub Hz Den. Surya Dub residents Maneesh The Twister, Kush Arora, Kid Kameleon., Ripley, Jimmy Love and the return of Aniguan-born MC Daddy Frank, will also bring their considerable DJ skills to the night.
