WORD:
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer the latest politician-slash-author
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
will join an ever-growing list of public officials who have turned to
authoring books but with a twist -- her debut work is a novel.
Chronicle Books will release Boxer’s A
Time To Run in about one month, a company executive told
WORD’N’BASS.com.
The novel, co-authored by Mary-Rose
Hayes, appears to borrow heavily from Boxer’s experience in the
cut throat world of politics, although Boxer says that A Time To Run is
"not about me, or any particular person."
An uncorrected
proof of the full manuscript obtained by WORD’N’BASS.com shows it’s
about a female senator grappling with professional and personal issues
during her climb to the top of the American political ladder. It took
her seven years to complete the manuscript, and Boxer noted that much
of the writing took place on long flights from California to
Washington, D.C.
A Time To Run follows protagonist Ellen Fischer, like Boxer a petite
5’-2", from college until she marries a rising political star. When her
husband dies she assumes his candidacy and becomes a senator. But
Ellen’s political and private lives clash when her former lover, a
journalist with right wing connections, enters the picture and passes
on documents that can make or break her career.
Barbara Boxer is serving her third consecutive term as a U.S. Senator
from California. Other politicians with recent books
include former President Bill Clinton,
Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton
and Senator Rick Santorum.
In addition,
Senator Trent Lott has
reportedly written a book called Master
of the Game that is a political
insider's "tell all," but it may end up getting shelved because of
guess what -- politics.
