New imprint Warner Twelve notches Buckley novel for its debut list
Warner Twelve added to its debut list after
acquiring Boomer, the latest
novel from Christopher Buckley,
which thematically combines today’s cult of youth with current events
and political
activism. The publisher is a new imprint of Time Warner that is getting
considerable hype as it acquires edgy titles from well-known authors.
Warner Twelve is headed by former Random House editor-in-chief Jonathan Karp, who plans just 12
titles per year at the boutique. The acquisition of Buckley’s Boomsday
marks the third slot that Warner Twelve has filled for its debut in
2007, according to entertainment trade press Variety.
Boomsday is about a female activist who convinces the government to
solve the looming Social Security crisis by offering Baby Boomers
incentives to kill themselves when they retire. Uberagent Amanda "Binky" Urban at
International Creative Management (ICM) closed the deal with Warner
Twelve.
Buckley’s previous novels include Little
Green Men, Wry Martinis and Thank
You For Smoking. Variety reported that Thank You For Smoking was
adapted to the big screen in a Fox Searchlight film that showed at the
recent Toronto Film Festival.
Buckley is the son of author and journalist William F. Buckley, Jr.
