WORD:
HarperCollins Publishers to make books excerpts available on iPhone
In an effort to reach new readers, HarperCollins
Publishers said it will make digital book content available for the
iPhone
platform, allowing readers to view pages of HarperCollins titles
online. The publisher’s pilot program will initially include samples
from 14 new books by authors such as Faye
Kellerman (pictured left), William
Lashner and David Mendell
in an iPhone-compatible format.
"Reaching
consumers on mobile devices and the Internet is increasingly important
for publishers," said Brian Murray,
President of HarperCollins Publishers Worldwide, in a press release.
"Our digital warehouse gives us the unique opportunity to quickly offer
access to our titles on the newest technology, and we encourage people
to provide feedback about their experiences."
The adaptation of this technology for iPhone users marks an ongoing
effort from HarperCollins to reach consumers on the Web by providing
content for a variety of platforms.
HarperCollins’ Browse Inside
application allows consumers to sample pages of its titles online. It
was adapted for the iPhone platform by LibreDigital, a division of
NewsStand, Inc. and a strategic partner in the ongoing development of
HarperCollins’ global digital warehouse and its application to the
Internet.
iPhone users visiting the Browse Inside page will be able to view the
first 10 pages of chapters one and two of 14 books in the initial
offering. They can then click to buy or pre-order the book from a list
of retailers.
Titles to be made available include:
The Art of Power by Thich Nhat Hanh (HarperOne)
Beyond the Body Farm by Bill Bass (William Morrow)
The Burnt House by Faye Kellerman (William Morrow)
The Case for the Real Jesus by Lee Strobel (Zondervan)
Ike, An American Hero by Michael Korda (HarperCollins)
A Killer’s Kiss by William Lashner (William Morrow)
Life on the Refrigerator Door by Alice Kuipers (HarperCollins)

iPhone users who wish to provide feedback can e-mail mobilebrowseinside@harpercollins.com

HarperCollins announced the creation of its global digital warehouse,
in partnership with LibreDigital, in April 2006. There are currently
10,000 titles available.
