WORD: Jenny Gardiner inks Simon & Schuster deal

Author Jenny Gardiner said yesterday that her literary agent Holly Root of the Waxman Literary Agency sold her humorous memoir, "Parrothood: Twenty Years of Caring for a Vengeful Bird Determined to Kill Me" to Simon & Schuster imprint Simon Spotlight Entertainment for hardback publication in spring 2010.

Jenny, who penned last year's "Sleeping with Ward Cleaver," (Dorchester Publishing), describes her sophomore book as something like David Sedaris meets Marley & Me with a deadly beak, as it's about a wild African Gray parrot that's been in her family for 20 years.

"This book has been a project near and dear to my heart for quite a long time, so to see it come to fruition is very exciting," she said in the announcement.

Congrats, Jenny!
